Which Type of Bail Bond Is Right for You?

Navigating the complicated world of the legal system can be tricky, and if you have been arrested and are eligible for bail, procuring a bond is a great way to get out of jail until your trial date. However, there are multiple types of bonds available depending upon your needs. Here are three of the most common options.

Surety Bonds

Surely bonds are the most common type of bail bonds Allentown PA and they are also the easiest to obtain. With this type of bond, the defendant pays a small percentage of the bail amount (typically about 10%) to a bail bondsman and in turn, they are expected to follow all guidelines set by the judge and are required to show up for all court dates and other necessary appointments. These are non-refundable even if your case is dismissed.

Property Bond

In this scenario, the defendant or a loved one can use a valuable object, such as a home or a car, as collateral. All of the documents (deeds, titles, etc.) must be surrendered, and if the defendant does not comply with the terms of his bail, this property will not be returned to the owner. This is a somewhat risky bond option so be sure that the defendant is willing to comply before you put these items on the line.

Cash Bail

If you can afford to pay your own bail or know someone who can help, this is the easiest option. As long as the defendant meets all of the court’s criteria, the money will eventually be returned (minus some required fees). Credit card payments are also allowed in some cases.

If you have been arrested, it is important to understand the bail options that are available to you. Luckily, there are many choices regardless of your monetary status.
